The Story Behind Gee’s Biltong

Meet George, the founder of Gee’s Biltong and the man behind the flavour.

After spending time studying in Ireland, George returned to Malta with a fresh perspective and an appetite for new ideas. Not long after, he joined the UM Wolves rugby team, where he met South African head coach Keenen Kleinsmith.

It was through Keenen that George was introduced to the rich tradition of South African biltong, a snack loved for its bold flavour and high-protein goodness. What started as curiosity quickly turned into passion.

With guidance from Keenen, George began learning the craft of traditional biltong making: selecting the right cuts of meat, mastering the spice blends, and perfecting the drying process that gives biltong its unmistakable taste.

After many kitchen experiments, tastings, and refinements, George developed a recipe that stays true to South African tradition while adding a subtle Maltese touch.

The result is Gee’s Biltong, a handcrafted snack made with care, quality ingredients, and a love for bold flavour.

What began as a simple discovery on the rugby pitch has grown into a mission: to bring authentic, high-quality biltong to Malta and beyond.
